Elvarg can hit constant hits of around with her breath on a shield, so lobsters are recommended since they heal up to life points. Pizzas or high healing two-click items are recommended for higher level players as the time to eat them is lengthened. For members, the recommended food to bring are monkfish or sharks. In addition, the explorer's ring , teleportation runes and tablets are useful for quick escaping the battle in case something goes wrong.
The option for teleporting with an Explorer's Ring can be quickly accessed through the equipped inventory interface. With reliable combat stats, Elvarg will usually deal more damage with dragonfire through an anti-dragon shield than with her melee attack.
Consequently, at prayer level 37, using protect from magic is recommended over protect from melee. Regardless of which protection prayer is used, her dragonfire will drain prayer points with each hit, so relying on prayer potions is not recommended. If you should choose to use ranged attacks, level 50 ranged is recommended with the use of either a rune crossbow , throwing axes , knives , or javelins , in conjunction with blue dragonhide armour. It is possible to have a friend weaken Elvarg to very low life points then let the player finish off Elvarg as she does not really drop the head.
The player's character will cut it off and it will appear in the inventory. As long as that person does not kill Elvarg, one can do this with as many people as they wish, but only players who have not completed Dragon Slayer may help. As Elvarg is weak to stab attacks, a rune sword is recommended as it possesses the highest stab bonus in F2P. A rune scimitar, rune battleaxe or rune mace are effective. Good-quality armour is a must; preferably adamant armour or better.
Foods such as lobsters or better are optimal for fighting her. Ya sorry if i put this in the worng place but it says she is the only dragon for f2p but i thoght that there were green dragons in the wild that they could fight.
As said above, Elvarg is not the only f2p dragon. The other that i no for sure as it just killed me is the King Black Dragon. Available to F2P since 26th Feb lvl Access via lvl 43 in the wilderness, down ladder then activate artefact. I actually beat Elvarg at lvl 45, with: Adamant Med. It was stupid, but I would fight and run behind a few rocks, eat, and repeat the process. When I did Dragon Slayer and then when I helped my friend finish it, I worked out my own strategy for fighting Elvarg. When you first attack her, Elvarg will start attacking you with her fire breath. During this time I started eating my lobs. When she stopped using her fire breat, then I started to melee her.
Every time she started using her fire breath, I ate my lobs and used melee in between breaths. I only needed 6 lobs for this. When you fight her, wear at least full mithril armor and be level I was level 45 when I did the quest. I almost died though.. Dragon Slayer is a quest that has been "overhyped" into being some mythical and impossible quest. The actual reality is that it can be done around a level combat level.
I recommend at least 50 attack dragons have high defense str, and def. Anything less than this will make the quest slightly harder. For gear I use full adamant or rune, a amulet of power, and some sort of sword with a strong stab attack Elvarg is weak to stab attacks. A Str potion and some prayer will help, but other than that, the fight should be straight forward. Remember, use a dragonfire shield!!!!!!
I created an alt and beat it at level 37 with full addy - the kiteshield and an addy long. The levels of attack str and def were all I used wizzard robe,wizzard hat, black shirt, amulet of magic, and staff of air.
