What will kill aphids on roses

Try using a garlic or chilli spray. Take two teaspoons of crushed garlic or chilli and put into mls of water. Let this sit for a couple of days so the water is very potent. Strain and spray onto the plants. Although this home remedy is highly effective it will need to be repeated each week for a couple of weeks or after it has rained. If you do know you will have aphid troubles then please consider companion planting.

Aphids dislike garlic, chives, mint and lavender. Roses grown with companion plants are much less prone to aphid attacks. These include ladybird larvae, ladybirds, lacewings, earwigs or also hoverflies. Deadwood corners, lacewing boxes or insect hotels provide beneficial organisms with a good opportunity of settling in your garden.

When the range of food available is large, these aphid hunters can increase greatly in number, and the aphid infestation will be less severe.

Ensure that you can provide the beneficial organisms with optimum conditions. An organised garden in which plant protection is constantly being used is not attractive for insects such as ladybirds. Repeat the procedure several times.

After treatment, ensure good ventilation. Spray the rose over several days with this mixture. Spray roses with Neem. This inhibits egg-laying and thus prevents progeny. Use as early on as possible. Do not compost. Keep the ground surrounding your roses free of leaf debris and weeds. Cold Water — For Powdery Mildew, spray affected leaves with cold water early in the morning and allow leaves to dry in the sun. Cut back as needed to promote regrowth. Exceptions: Some rose leaves turn yellow in the fall.
