Which curriculum is the best

I am looking for a curriculum that encourages children to think for themselves and to love learning. Something that will encourage them in discovery of self and an intense interest in the world around them. Would you, perchance, have any recommendations? I was homeschooled K We used Sonlight and I highly recommend it. It's a literature-based curriculum, with definite Christian roots, but always with a goal of teaching kids and young adults to think for themselves, to reach their own conclusions, to successfully navigate the world.

After high school I didn't have a specific path in mind, but I had an interest in photography so I did a lot of networking. As I had more and more conversations with entrepreneurs a lot of them would mention the importance of being a life long learner and it almost made me laugh the first couple times I heard it because it just felt so obvious to me.

What else would you possibly be?! But that's Sonlight for you! Both of my older sisters went to college and got work in their field straight out of college - graphic design and chemical engineering.

Now, as a 21 year old, I still read upwards of 20 books a year. I'm always in the middle of multiple books and am always pursuing growth and opportunities. Some of the best conversations I've ever had were sitting around the kitchen table with my mom and siblings discussing ideas, themes, characters, plots, dreams. I have wonderful connections to my siblings and my parents and I think that's in large part to the structure, freedom, and tools Sonlight provided.

Articles like this are so important for parents! Thank you for the research and time you put into this information, I will save this link and forward to friends who want to learn more! My wife and I use One that is great for high school to preschool with tons of resources and organizational tools and even resources for kids with disabilities!

Hi Glenda - I am sorry to hear of your troubles. Unfortunately, we are not a provider of homeschool services or curriculum. I wish your family the best in whatever direction your educational journey takes you.

Maybe this will get you on the right track. I did a quick search, I know there are programs for you to learn to read at home of a school setting most likely day or night and should be free or almost free. I'm sure you will do great! Sonya, since Billy made that comment over a year ago, it's possible she won't see your question. I can't tell from her description what curriculum she might have chosen.

You might try visiting with your local homeschool group or attending a conference or homeschool store to look through some curriculum possibilities. Your librarian might also have suggestions. TheHomeSchoolMom does have a list of local and state resources. I have a 9 year old son whom struggles with wanting to learn and also a struggle reader.

I had my son in catholic school for kindergarten and 1st grade but on the 2nd to last day of 1st grade my son was thrown out for his reading disability. I was told by the catholic principal over the phone that don't cry its nothing I've done wrong that my son is just wired differently. Every homeschool curriculum serves a purpose. You need to try them out to find which you like best.

Another may need a nine-seater mini-bus to move their large family while another may prefer the prestige and elegance of a sleek car with a full-house of luxury features. Similarly, every homeschool curriculum will serve the purpose for which it was designed, but which one you choose may depend on your budget, your preferences and the needs of your unique children. As with cars, sometimes you will use one particular curriculum for a season, only to choose something else the next time you buy.

How would you describe the curriculum? Is it a programme of learning? The national curriculum? That which is taught or untaught? Well, a curriculum is the total experience of learning. It encompasses aims, content, pedagogy and assessment. Currently, there is a lot of debate about different types of curriculum. Labels, such as knowledge-based, skills-based, creative, thematic, and child-centred, are all popular, but often they can be at best confusing and, at worst, stress-inducing for schools.

Do we need to change our curriculum to meet the needs of any particular type? Is this the sort of curriculum that Ofsted is looking for?
